Hello everyone! I hope you've had a safe, healthy, and happy fall! Even though this semester was fully virtual, I have definitely been keeping busy. From dance to theatre to classes, I have definitely had my hands full.
I started a new job this semester teaching musical theatre style dance at my childhood dance studio, Dick Barker School of Dance (there's a blog post about it if you want to hear more!). I act as an assistant and clean the studio on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and teach on Thursdays. Our adult class is drop in style, so feel free to join any Thursday from 5:45 PM - 6:30 PM for only $12. "Zoom"-ers and all dance levels welcome!
I've also been keeping busy with some fun virtual theatre productions as well. The Dean College School of the Arts came up with a series called "Werk Your Craft" which was completely student run with one faculty advisor. We performed 28 contemporary plays in 14 weeks completely directed, stage managed, designed, and performed by the students. I was lucky to be a part of five of the twenty eight, directing one and performing in four. Each play was so unique and had so much to offer to the cast and crew. You could really sink your teeth in no matter what play you worked on. As an actor, it really helped me with my listening and reacting skills. As a director, it helped me focus on the roots of the show (there's another blog post about this too). There are no actual technical elements in the play; it's down to bare bones so you have to work to make it come to life.
I am almost done with the first semester of my senior year, and it feels crazy. This is not how I ever thought my senior year would be, but I'm still making the most of it and enjoying every minute of it. Here's to finals, and may the odds be ever in our favor.
